Projects for Veterans:
From the very beginning, veterans have been at the heart of Stand Easy. Today we offer a variety of different projects that veterans can get involved in as individuals. Veterans are also welcome to join our family projects and events (either as an individual or with family members). All of our projects are free to take part in.

Devising project:
Each year Stand Easy delivers a devising project for military veterans. This project takes place over three or four weeks and culminates in a small tour of a performance created by the group.
There is no need for those taking part to have any experience of drama or performing (in fact, most of those who take part have never done anything like this before), all you need is a willingness to try something new.
The project usually takes place in Dundee however we provide accommodation for those who don’t live in the local area, we also cover travel costs and provide meals throughout the process.
“When the project started I wasn’t sure it was for me. After two days I was seriously thinking about just giving it all up but I thought ‘no, I’ll stick it till the end’. And then something changed...On day three I actually had a good time. By the end of the project I absolutely loved it, I couldn’t get enough. ”
The piece the group creates will be inspired by their own stories and experiences, previous themes have included the Falklands war, transition from military to civilian life and family life in the forces.
Although this project is targeted at veterans who have experienced mental ill-health we also welcome participants who are adult family members of veterans or retired emergency responders
Weekly workshops:
“I still have a lot of bad days but working with Stand Easy, it’s given me that self belief that I can do it. I wouldn’t be at college if it wasn’t for Stand Easy because I just wouldn’t have that confidence or self belief that I could do it.”
Stand Easy offers weekly drama workshops for veterans in Dundee. These workshops are very informal and including lots of opportunities to socialise, catch up and share stories, as well as some drama games and other creative activities.
At the moment, workshops take place on a Tuesday afternoon at Showcase the Street, DD3 7PY. Workshops are open to any veteran or adult family member, you don’t need to have taken part in any of our other projects or have any theatre experience. The weekly workshops generally don’t work towards performances.
