Alan’s professional theatre work has always revolved around educational and community theatre, using theatre as a means to transform the lives of both individuals and communities. He uses theatre as a way of providing a voice to people who otherwise might not be heard, and to audiences who are new to theatre. This has led to his specialising in the devising of plays. Alan has worked with theatres such as 7.84 Theatre Company, the Byre Theatre, Eden Court Theatre. He has established his own companies: the Orkney Youth Theatre and the Untied TIE Company in Glasgow. He has worked as a freelance community theatre practitioner all over Scotland. He spent 10 years as a Lecturer in Acting at Edinburgh’s Telford College. Alan has also spent periods of his life as a joiner running his own building business, as a writer and as a freelance journalist.
